PARCO is seeking applications for its 100% owned subsidiary PARCO Pearl Gas (Pvt) Ltd.
Job Purpose
The Deputy Manager – Income and Sales Taxes is responsible for supporting the implementation and execution of PPGL’s tax strategy while ensuring compliance with applicable federal and provincial tax laws in Pakistan.
The position reviews and supervises tax advisory, compliance, reporting, assessments, litigation and tax-planning activities. It assists the CFO PPGL in minimizing tax exposure, mitigating tax-related risks and ensuring that all legitimate tax benefits, credits, exemptions and refunds are appropriately claimed.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tax advice relating to the local and foreign procurement of goods and services.
- Review tax clauses included in tender documents, contracts, invitations to bid and commercial agreements.
- Review the tax treatment of PPGL’s projects, including sales tax applicability, exemptions and input tax claims.
- Assist the CFO PPGL in planning and managing tax assessments, audits, appeals and litigation to minimize undue tax demands and associated risks.
- Review and regularly update the tax litigation register, including hearing dates, response deadlines and expiry dates of stay orders.
- Review replies, calculations and supporting documents prepared in response to notices issued to PPGL by federal and provincial tax authorities.
- Review appeals, writ petitions, lawsuits and other legal documents before submission to appellate authorities or courts.
- Attend hearings before tax authorities, appellate forums and courts in coordination with tax consultants and legal advisers.
- Review weekly withholding tax payments and ensure timely compliance with applicable income tax laws.
- Review monthly sales tax calculations, payments, reconciliations and returns.
- Review monthly stamp-duty calculations, challans, payments and accounting entries.
- Review quarterly advance income tax calculations, approvals, payments and submissions to the Federal Board of Revenue.
- Review withholding tax statements and reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely submission.
- Review annual income tax computations and returns, ensuring that all admissible expenses, legitimate tax credits and refunds are appropriately claimed or adjusted.
- Review monthly tax charges, tax management reports and related journal entries.
- Review annual tax-charge calculations and disclosures required for audited financial statements.
- Supervise and review the work performed by tax accountants.
- Maintain constructive working relationships with federal and provincial tax authorities, tax consultants, legal advisers, industry representatives, EOBI/PESSI/SESSI/WPPF, regulatory bodies and chambers of commerce.
Minimum Qualifications
- ACA
- FCCA
- FCMA
- MBA
Minimum Experience
- Minimum eight years of post-qualification experience.
- At least five years of hands-on taxation experience.
- Practical experience in income tax, sales tax, tax compliance, assessments and litigation in Pakistan.
- Experience in a large corporate organization, oil and gas sector or regulated industry will be preferred.
Technical Skills
- Excellent knowledge of Pakistan’s taxation system and applicable financial reporting standards.
- Strong understanding of direct and indirect taxation.
- Knowledge of customs and excise regulations.
- Tax planning and strategy-development capability.
- Experience in tax assessments, audits, appeals and litigation.
- Understanding of tax-risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and budgeting.
- Working knowledge of federal and provincial sales tax laws.
- Level 2 knowledge of tax configuration in SAP.
