Engineering Manager

About the role

We are a data engineering and analytics company. We build data platforms for our customers: ingestion, warehousing, transformation, the infrastructure underneath it. We are changing our core to agentic AI, so this is not a caretaker role. You help us rebuild how we deliver, not just run what exists today. You own delivery quality, raise the technical bar, grow the team. You stay hands-on - in the pipeline, in the PR - not just in meetings.

What you'll own

• Delivery quality and timelines on assigned client data platform teams. If delivery is at risk you get hands-on, you don't just escalate it.
• Team rituals - standups, sprint/ticket planning, retros. Remove blockers before they cost a sprint.
• Mentorship and growth of data engineers and analysts. Onboarding, coaching, performance management. 10x the mentorship we do today.
• Technical hiring loop for data engineering and analytics roles - screening, interviewing, final call.
• Client-facing communication on the data platform build. Answer to client should be under 1 hour.

Our engineering culture

Mandatory PR review on every repo. CODEOWNERS. Branch protection. Conventional commits. CI/CD as standard. Same rules for dbt, Dagster, pipeline code. This is not a checklist, this is the culture we hire into. You hold the whole team to it, including yourself.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years in data engineering or software engineering, 2+ years leading or managing an engineering team.
• Hands-on experience building and shipping agentic AI systems. Required, not a nice-to-have. This role is core to changing how we deliver, not maintaining what exists today.
• Still comfortable reviewing PRs and debugging pipeline or warehouse issues yourself. This is not a purely administrative role.
• Experience delivering client-facing data platforms under real deadlines - ingestion, transformation (dbt), orchestration (Dagster), the cloud infra underneath.
• Cloud infra and CI/CD (Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions) is a strong plus given overlap with our DevOps hiring.
• Excellent async, written communication. We are a Slack-native, distributed team.
