What this role really is
Bykea's mission is to improve the movement of people parcels in, packages and payments in” with “& parcels in Pakistan, and our iOS app is one of the core ways millions of users experience that every month. As an iOS Engineer, you'll build and maintain core and non-core services and features in our iOS applications, working closely with the rest of the engineering team to integrate front-end elements into a fast, reliable, native experience.
This is a hands-on build role. You take ownership of features in the apps, writing them, testing them, and shipping them with a basic understanding of front-end technologies so you can properly integrate work built by your co-workers.
If your instinct on a performance issue is "let me profile this and fix it properly," this role is for you. If it's "someone else will sort that out," it isn't.
The environment touches a live, high-traffic app handling real transactions for a large user base. Code quality and reliability matter as much as speed.

• What you'll actually do
• Build and maintain core features. Own core services and features in our iOS app end-to-end.
• Write clean, reusable code. Write reusable, testable, and efficient code that the rest of the team can build on.
• Design for performance. Design and implement low-latency, high-availability, and performant application features.
• Implement security and data protection. Handle user data responsibly, following iOS and company security practices.
• Build and maintain integrations. Implement and maintain synchronous and asynchronous microservice integrations, and connect with existing and evolving core systems.
• Integrate front-end elements. Work with front-end elements built by co-workers and integrate them cleanly into the app.
  
  

Must-haves

• 3+ years in Swift development
• 1+ years of experience with SwiftUI
• Strong concept of Object-Oriented Programming
• Comfortable with version control system
• Experience working with Maps (Google Maps, Openstreet Maps, etc.)
• Experience working with REST APIs
• Proven experience creating multiple apps, across multiple types of apps
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies
• Passion for learning new technologies
• Strong experience in native iOS development
• Must be able to demonstrate a portfolio of iOS applications developed and launched on the App Store
• Be competent with using AI and automation tools effectively and efficiently to boost productivity in all relevant areas of the role, including coding, code review, documentation, research, testing, etc. Should have experience using these tools for at least a year to know about the strengths and weaknesses of these tools.

Experience using Agile methodologies
Exposure to high-traffic, consumer-facing apps
Familiarity with CI/CD tooling for iOS

Experience & qualifications
3+ years of experience in native iOS development.
A demonstrable portfolio of shipped iOS applications on the App Store.
Location: Karachi.
