Requirements:
- Strong, all-round multi-client payroll experience gained in an accountancy practice, payroll bureau, or similar outsourced environment.
- Confident managing the full payroll cycle, including HMRC requirements, RTI submissions, PAYE liabilities, starters, leavers, P45s, P60s, P11Ds, and year-end processes.
- Experience with statutory payments, student loans, attachment of earnings orders, and auto-enrolment pension submissions.
- Experience using payroll software and a strong understanding of current payroll legislation.
- Highly organised, accurate, and comfortable managing multiple clients and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to handle client payroll queries effectively.
- Genuine interest in developing broader accounting and accounts preparation skills.
- Some bookkeeping or VAT experience and familiarity with Xero or QuickBooks would be desirable.
- CIPP qualification, AAT part-qualification, or willingness to pursue relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
- Manage a varied portfolio of client payrolls end to end across weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, and monthly frequencies.
- Process RTI submissions, PAYE liabilities, statutory payments, pension assessments, deductions, and year-end payroll requirements accurately and on time.
- Produce payslips, payroll reports, and journals, while acting as the main point of contact for client payroll queries.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and current legislation.
- Perform bookkeeping and bank reconciliations for a range of clients as part of the accounts training programme.
- Prepare VAT returns under Making Tax Digital and support year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and small limited companies.
- Assist with management accounts and maintain accurate working papers.
- Develop practical experience with cloud accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks.
- Progressively develop broader accounting skills through training, with the aim of becoming a well-rounded practice all-rounder.
