Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Power BI Visualisation Specialist to design, develop, and deliver high-impact business intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI. The ideal candidate will combine strong data analysis, data modelling, visual storytelling, and stakeholder engagement capabilities to turn complex data into clear, trusted, and actionable insights for business and executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Power BI Dashboard Design and Visualisation:

• Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that provide clear business insights and enable data-driven decision-making.
• Apply data visualisation best practices, user experience principles, and visual storytelling techniques to make complex information easy to understand for operational, management, and executive audiences.
  
  
  

Data Modelling and Report Development:

• Develop robust Power BI semantic models, measures, calculated columns, and reusable datasets using DAX, Power Query, and sound data modelling principles.
• Connect to, transform, and validate data from multiple sources including SQL databases, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, data warehouses, and cloud-based platforms.
• Optimise report performance, data refresh processes, query logic, and dataset design to ensure reliable, scalable, and efficient reporting solutions.
  
  
  

Stakeholder Engagement and Business Requirements:

• Engage with business stakeholders to understand reporting needs, define KPIs, clarify data definitions, and translate requirements into practical BI solutions.
• Partner with data engineers, analysts, architects, product teams, and business owners to ensure dashboards are aligned to business processes, data sources, and decision-making requirements.
• Facilitate dashboard walkthroughs, user acceptance testing, feedback sessions, and adoption activities to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
  
  
  

Governance, Quality and Security:

• Implement BI governance standards, naming conventions, documentation practices, version control, and reusable dashboard templates.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, lineage, and integrity across dashboards, reports, measures, and published datasets.
• Configure and support Power BI Service workspaces, data refreshes, access permissions, row-level security, and publishing processes in line with organisational policies.
  
  
  

Technical Leadership and Continuous Improvement:

• Provide technical guidance to analysts and junior BI developers on Power BI design, data modelling, DAX, and visualisation best practices.
• Continuously improve reporting standards, dashboard usability, automation opportunities, and adoption of new Microsoft analytics capabilities such as Power BI, Power Platform, Azure Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric where relevant.
  
  
  

Support, Maintenance and Adoption:

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance existing Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, and refresh schedules.
• Provide end-user support, training, and guidance to help business teams interpret dashboards and use Power BI effectively.
• Document dashboard logic, source data, calculations, ownership, refresh frequency, and support procedures to ensure long-term sustainability.
  
  
  

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant Microsoft certifications will be advantageous.

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, reporting, or data visualisation, with strong hands-on experience developing Power BI solutions.
• Proven experience delivering executive dashboards, operational reports, KPI packs, and self-service analytics solutions for business stakeholders.
• Experience leading BI initiatives, gathering requirements, defining reporting standards, and guiding users through dashboard adoption and insight interpretation.
  
  
  

Technical Skills:

• Advanced Microsoft Power BI development skills, including Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, workspaces, publishing, scheduled refreshes, and app distribution.
• Strong DAX, Power Query, data modelling, semantic model design, and performance optimisation capability.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases, data warehouses, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, and other enterprise data sources.
• Knowledge of BI governance, data quality controls, row-level security, access management, and dashboard lifecycle management.
• Strong understanding of data visualisation principles, dashboard UX, KPI design, insight storytelling, and executive reporting.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform, or related analytics platforms will be advantageous.
