About ACE CPAs

ACE CPAs (acecpas.com) is a fast-growing, AI-forward CPA and advisory firm serving US business owners across construction, medical and dental practices, SaaS, and professional services. We provide bookkeeping, tax, Fractional CFO, Quality of Earnings (QoE), and M&A advisory services. Our tax practice supports individuals, S Corporations, partnerships, and HOAs across multiple states on a modern stack: ProConnect, Drake Tax, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, monday.com, and AI-powered workflows.

We are hiring an experienced US Tax Specialist to own tax engagements from data collection through accepted e-file. This is a hands-on role for someone who can independently run a portfolio of returns and deliver clean, accurate work with minimal review.

READ THIS FIRST

This role is for preparers who have already done the work. It is not a role to learn US tax on the job. You are a strong fit only if all of these are true:

  • You have independently prepared and filed US 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 returns across at least two full tax seasons.
  • You have prepared real returns in ProConnect or Drake Tax. Actual filings, not coursework.
  • You have handled Federal and multi-state filings, extensions, and e-file submissions end to end.
  • You have read and responded to IRS or state notices yourself.
  • You have used QuickBooks Online and Desktop to pull the data behind a return.

If any of these is not true yet, this is likely not the right role for you at this stage.

What you will own

Tax preparation and filing

  • Prepare and file Federal and state returns: 1040, 1120-S, 1065, and 1120-H.
  • Run complete engagements from source documents to accepted e-file.
  • Handle multi-entity structures, multi-year catch-up returns, overdue filings, and extensions.
  • Monitor MeF acknowledgements and resolve rejects.

Notices, elections, and resolution

  • Review and respond to IRS and state notices.
  • Prepare penalty abatement requests: First-Time Abatement, Reasonable Cause, and Rev. Proc. 84-35.
  • Prepare elections such as Form 2553 and Form 3115, and maintain accurate depreciation schedules.

Sales tax and state compliance

  • Prepare and file multi-state Sales and Use Tax returns.
  • Support state registrations, withholding, and other state-specific obligations.
  • Assess taxability and document filing positions.

Software, data, and workflow

  • Work daily in ProConnect, Drake Tax, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, monday.com, and Google Workspace.
  • Keep clean workpapers and clear documentation.
  • Keep every assigned engagement moving through the firm's workflow.

Client communication

  • Serve as the primary contact for your assigned clients.
  • Communicate directly with US business owners by email and Zoom.
  • Chase outstanding items, give proactive status updates, and coordinate with the internal accounting and tax teams to file on time.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience preparing US 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 returns, across at least two tax seasons.
  • Recent, hands-on preparation in ProConnect or Drake Tax.
  • Solid grasp of filing procedures, extensions, e-filing, and IRS notice responses.
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online and Desktop.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and hold high accuracy under pressure.
  • Available full-time during US business hours.

Preferred

  • Multi-entity client groups and pass-through entities.
  • Multi-state Sales and Use Tax.
  • IRS notice resolution and penalty abatements.
  • Construction, medical, dental, or SaaS clients.
  • EA or CPA (not required).
  • Comfortable using AI tools to work faster.

What we value

  • Ownership from data request to accepted filing.
  • Judgment over data entry.
  • Accuracy, accountability, and proactive communication.
  • Strong organization and documentation.

Growth and career path

This role sits at the center of a growing tax practice. Strong performers move into Senior Tax Specialist and Tax Reviewer roles, take on larger and more complex portfolios, and help shape how we run tax.
