Role description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Database Subject Matter Expert (SME) specializing in Oracle & SQL Server to manage, optimize, and secure enterprise database systems within the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) domain. This role involves database architecture, performance tuning, security, backup, and disaster recovery planning in a mission-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Administration & Performance Optimization

• Install, configure, and manage Oracle (12c, 19c) and SQL Server (2016, 2019, 2022) in high-availability environments.
• Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and in-memory processing.

Security & Compliance

• Implement RBAC, encryption, auditing, and data masking to ensure compliance with BFSI security regulations (PCI DSS, GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2).

Backup, Recovery & High Availability

• Develop and maintain backup and recovery plans using RMAN, Data Pump, SQL Server Always On, and enterprise backup solutions.
• Design and implement Oracle Data Guard, Oracle RAC, SQL Server Always On, and Failover Clustering for high availability and disaster recovery.

Automation & Cloud Integration

• Automate database administration tasks using PL/SQL, T-SQL, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible.
• Manage and optimize databases on AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Oracle Cloud, and hybrid cloud environments.

Incident Management & Monitoring

• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, failures, and connectivity problems.
• Utilize monitoring tools such as OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager), SQL Server Profiler, Prometheus, and Splunk for proactive performance analysis.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.
• Maintain detailed documentation of database architectures, security policies, and disaster recovery procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in Oracle & SQL Server database administration.
• Expertise in high-availability architectures (RAC, Always On, Data Guard, Failover Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
• Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Experience in database security, encryption, and compliance.
• Proficiency in PL/SQL, T-SQL, PowerShell, Python, or Ansible for automation.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Oracle Cloud).
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in production environments.
• Experience with database migration, upgrades, and patching.

Preferred Certifications:

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) – Database Administration
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate
• AWS Certified Database – Specialty
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) (if relevant for containerized databases)
