Scope of work
The Food Packer & Distributor is responsible for hygienic food portioning, packing, loading, and delivery of tiffins/lunch box from the kitchen to schools. The role includes maintaining food-safety standards, ensuring proper distribution, coordinating with school staff, and managing the return of empty tiffins/lunch box. The position requires early morning work hours and efficient coordination with the kitchen and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Take prepared meals from big bowls/containers (large pots) and portion them into individual tiffins/lunch box as per standard serving size.
- Ensure each tiffin/ lunch box is filled correctly, closed properly, and placed in the correct transport tray or box.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene during all food handling and packing activities.
- Check that all tiffins/ lunch box are leak-proof and safely packed for transport.
- Load the packed tiffins / lunch box into the designated van safely and in correct order.
- Ensure timely dispatch of food so it reaches schools before class meal time.
- Deliver tiffins/ lunch box to the assigned schools as per distribution schedule.
- Upon delivery, politely coordinate with teachers to inquire about the day’s class attendance, ensuring correct meal count.
- Provide teachers with the correct number of tiffins based on attendance or class list.
- Address any immediate distribution issues and inform the supervisor if needed.
- Collect empty tiffins from the school after meal time.
- Segregate full tiffins (if any left) and empty tiffins at the designated area upon return to the kitchen or distribution point.
- Report shortages, extra items, or damaged tiffins to the supervisor.
- Ensure all collected tiffins are handled hygienically.
- Maintain strict handwashing and sanitation practices throughout the duty.
- Wear required protective gear (gloves, cap, mask, apron).
- Keep the packing and van-loading areas clean.
- Ensure no contamination occurs during portioning, packing, or transportation.
- Maintain daily records of the number of tiffins packed, delivered, and returned.
- Report any missing, damaged, or extra tiffins.
- Flag any irregularities related to attendance, distribution, or returns.
- Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure timely packing of fresh meals.
- Coordinate with the driver and distribution team for efficient delivery.
- Attend training sessions, safety updates, and team briefings.
Health & Hygiene Requirements
- Must undergo and pass a Medical Fitness Test required for food-handling staff.
- Must be free from communicable or viral diseases that may risk food safety or public health.
- Must maintain excellent personal hygiene (clean clothes, trimmed nails, regular handwashing).
- Must fully comply with organizational hygiene and food-safety standards.
- Periodic health checks may be required.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Ability to work early morning hours (6 AM start).
- Strong attention to cleanliness and detail.
- Physically fit for lifting, carrying, and standing for long periods.
- Good communication skills when interacting with teachers and staff.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with discipline and punctuality.
- No formal education required; basic literacy preferred.
- Experience in food packing, kitchen work, or distribution is an advantage.
- Must be willing to learn hygiene and safety procedures.
