About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant with strong expertise in US construction accounting specifically for a General Contractor. The selected candidate will support a US-based general contracting company and will be responsible for job costing, project-based financial tracking, WIP schedules, subcontractor billing, retainage management, and construction-focused financial reporting.
The ideal professional has 5+ years of experience in construction accounting, strong command over QuickBooks (Online/Desktop), and deep knowledge of project financial workflows used by general contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and project-level accounting for a US-based general contractor.
- Manage full-cycle accounting: AP, AR, GL entries, project expense tracking, and month-end closing.
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, cost-to-complete analysis, and job profitability reports.
- Handle construction billing, including Progress Billing, AIA forms, retainage, and subcontractor payouts.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, job costs, payroll allocations, and subcontractor expenses.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Support budget creation, variance analysis, and cost control for ongoing construction projects.
- Coordinate with US-based management, contractors, and auditors for project and financial reviews.
- Ensure proper documentation: W-9s, COIs (insurance certificates), lien waivers, subcontractor agreements, and payment compliance.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience, specifically in US construction accounting for a General Contractor.
- Strong command of QuickBooks Online / Desktop.
- Expertise in job costing, WIP reports, construction billing, and project accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial reporting and data analysis.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, retainage handling, subcontractor compliance, and construction billing cycles.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working directly with a US general contracting company.
- Knowledge of AIA billing, lien waivers, subcontractor management, and construction compliance workflows.
- Strong communication skills for clear coordination with US-based teams and clients.
