Role description

Service Owner – Database (Cloud Database, Oracle, MS SQL)

Operation and Engineering to lead and manage enterprise-wide database services.

This role will be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, performance, and scalability of Cloud, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server database environments across the organization.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in cloud-native databases, database administration, engineering, automation, optimization, and compliance, especially in mission-critical applications within regulated industries like BFSI.

Key Responsibilities:

• Service Ownership & Strategy: Define and drive the Database Operation & Engineering strategy for Cloud, Oracle, and MS SQL, ensuring alignment with business goals.

• Cloud Database Management: Oversee the administration and engineering of cloud-based database solutions (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Oracle Cloud).

• On-Premise & Hybrid Database Administration: Manage and optimize Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server environments.

• High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Implement and maintain HA, DR, and backup solutions to meet strict SLAs.

• Performance Tuning & Optimization: Ensure optimal query performance, indexing, and resource utilization.

• Security & Compliance: Enforce database security, encryption, auditing, role-based access control (RBAC), and compliance with BFSI regulations.

• Automation & DevOps Integration: Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and automated database provisioning.

• Capacity Planning & Scalability: Monitor growth trends and ensure databases can scale efficiently.

• Incident & Problem Management: Manage database-related incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and drive continuous service improvements.

• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, and security teams to support business operations.

• Vendor & Technology Management: Evaluate and manage relationships with cloud service providers and database technology vendors.

• IT Service Management (ITSM): Implement ITIL best practices for change, incident, and problem management.

• Cost & Budget Management: Ensure cost-effective database solutions while maintaining performance and security.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Education: Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field; certifications like Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or AWS Certified Database – Specialty preferred.

• Experience:

Minimum 10+ years of database engineering and operations experience, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role.

• Technical Expertise:

o Strong knowledge of Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, and cloud databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Oracle Cloud).

o Experience with database clustering, replication, backup strategies, and high availability solutions.

o Proficiency in automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or PowerShell.

o Strong understanding of security and compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, GDPR, SOX).

• Leadership & Communication: Excellent team leadership, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of containerized database solutions (Kubernetes, Docker).

• Experience with big data platforms and analytics databases (Snowflake, Hadoop, Google BigQuery).

• Familiarity with AI-driven database performance monitoring tools.
