Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Switchgear Design Manager to lead and manage the design and development of electrical switchgear products and systems. In this role, you will oversee the technical aspects of switchgear design, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive innovation in the design process. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of switchgear technology, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership:
    • Lead a team of electrical engineers and designers in the development and design of switchgear systems, ensuring high-quality outputs.
    • Provide technical direction, mentoring, and support to team members to ensure the successful execution of projects.
    • Oversee and manage the entire design lifecycle, from conceptual design through to final production.
  • Project Management:
    • Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for switchgear design projects.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (R&D, production, procurement, etc.) to ensure timely delivery and quality of design solutions.
    • Manage project risk, resolve technical issues, and ensure that design solutions meet both customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Product Development and Innovation:
    • Innovate and improve switchgear designs, applying the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
    • Work closely with R&D teams to develop new products and refine existing designs for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Ensure that designs are scalable, manufacturable, and cost-competitive.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all switchgear designs comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, IEEE).
    • Lead design validation and testing processes, ensuring that all products meet safety, operational, and performance specifications.
    • Implement and enforce design review processes to minimize errors and ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Client and Stakeholder Management:
    • Liaise with clients, sales teams, and other stakeholders to define design requirements and specifications.
    • Provide technical support during the pre-sale and post-sale phases, addressing customer queries and concerns related to switchgear designs.
    • Maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their needs and ensuring successful project execution.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Establish and promote continuous improvement initiatives within the design team.
    • Review design processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement process enhancements.
    • Stay updated on new trends, technologies, and best practices within the switchgear and electrical engineering fields.
Qualifications And Skills

  • Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer, PMP) are a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in switchgear design, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
    • Proven track record in managing switchgear design projects, from concept through to execution.
    • Strong experience in electrical engineering design principles, including protection schemes, control circuits, and electrical components.
    • Familiarity with software tools for switchgear design (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, and others).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in switchgear technologies, including medium and low voltage switchgear.
    • In-depth understanding of relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations (IEC, ANSI, IEEE).
    • Experience in designing and testing electrical systems, including fault analysis, short circuit, and coordination studies.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills:
    • Excellent leadership, team management, and mentoring abilities.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to manage and motivate a team, ensuring a high level of performance and innovation.
  • Personal Traits:
    • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable solutions.
    • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the power generation, distribution, or industrial sector.
  • Familiarity with global market requirements and standards.
  • Knowledge of digital and smart grid technologies, as well as advancements in switchgear systems.
