Prepare histologic slides from human tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist.
Major
- Prepares sections of human tissue for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis, using techniques to gross, embed, section/ microtomy, stain and mount tissue from surgical procedures.
- Examines slides and/or blocks to ensure tissue preparation is meeting laboratory requirements.
- Exercises independent judgment in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
- Trains or directs Laboratory Assistants and Histology Technicians engaged in laboratory testing and processing techniques.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.
- Complies with all departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
- A Receiving of Histopathology and Cytology specimen according to SOPs.
- Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
- Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Prepare slides and blocks of cytology specimens and stain them as per SOPs.
- Performs grossing of small specimens and fixes the large specimen under supervision. Assists the pathologist in grossing of large specimen.
- Disposal of hazardous chemical waste as per regulatory guidelines.
