Job Summary
CARE Pakistan requires the services of The WASH Assistants-Humanitarian will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities and the distribution of Non-Food Items (NFIs) and Shelter Kits. They will act as sub-engineers, ensuring the quality and effectiveness of WASH interventions and supporting the overall humanitarian response in the target areas. in line with CARE strategy to empower communities in the target areas, especially women and children.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
1- WASH Implementation (Oversee the construction and rehabilitation of water sources, ensuring they are safe, sustainable, and accessible to the community.
- Conduct site assessments to identify suitable locations for new water sources and evaluate the condition of existing ones.
- Coordinate with contractors and local labor to ensure the quality and timely completion of construction and rehabilitation works.
- Ensure that water sources are equipped with necessary infrastructure, such as hand pumps, , storage tanks etc, to provide a reliable supply of clean water.
- Supervise the construction and rehabilitation of toilets, ensuring they meet health and safety standards.
- Work with community members to promote the use of toilets and educate them on proper sanitation practices.
- Ensure that toilets are designed to be accessible to all, including people with disabilities and the elderly.
- Monitor the maintenance and cleanliness of toilets to prevent contamination and promote hygiene.
- Distribution and proper Use of hygiene kits and IEC materials.
- Distribute IEC materials that provide information on hygiene practices, disease prevention, and the importance of clean water and sanitation.
- Ensure that all WASH activities comply with national and international standards and guidelines.
- Stay updated on the latest WASH best practices and incorporate them into project activities.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Provide training and capacity-building to project staff and community members on WASH standards and guidelines.
2- Shelter Kits Distribution Management (35%):
- Identify and register beneficiaries for the distribution of Shelter Kits.
- Coordinate and manage the logistics of distribution activities, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of distributed items and beneficiaries.
- Ensure that distributions are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
- Provide technical guidance and support to beneficiaries on the proper use and assembly of shelter kits.
- Conduct training sessions and demonstrations on how to set up and maintain the shelters.
- Monitor the use of shelter kits to ensure they are being used effectively and safely.
- Address any technical issues or challenges faced by beneficiaries in using the shelter kits.
- Ensure that shelter solutions are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of the community.
- Provide feedback and reports on distribution activities to the line manager.
3- Planning and Coordination (10%):
- Develop and share monthly work plans with the line manager.
- Track and reporting field-level issues.
- Coordinate with service provider teams.
- Engage with Village level Committees members, Support Groups, and other community structures for feedback and coordination.
- Disseminate updates and information within the team and community.
4- Other responsibilities as assigned (5% of time)
- Any other tasks or responsibilities based on organizational and programming needs as assigned by the Line Manager.
A) Qualifications (Know How)
Required
- Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE)/ in Civil Technology.
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering.
B) Experience/ Technical Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a similar position.
- Experience in implemmentation of WASH related schemes , reporting, case studies, team management, training, data management, and coordination.
- Understanding of WASH,Distribution of humantarian assistance.
- Experience working with public departments, community representatives, and union council-level stakeholders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with donor-funded projects, NGOs, or INGOs preferred.
