Deputy Field Coordinator

Position Objective:This position will coordinate the mission strategy and all projects of Action Against Hunger in Sindh province. S/he will directly manage the Sindh based support team, and the project managers in Sindh. S/he will be a member of the Senior Management Team of ACF in Pakistan, and will facilitate good relations between the Sindh based staff and the capital office.

Relevant Experience: Master’s degree in the relevant field. Minimum 08 years of overall experience with 04 years in the relevant field in the development sector OR Bachelor’s degree on the relevant field. Minimum 10 years of overall experience with 06 years in the relevant field in the development sector

Job Description:

Mission 1: Contribute to the country strategy

The Deputy Field Coordinator is responsible for:

• Implement the country strategy at field level in Sindh in collaboration with the Leads of Technical Department and Program/Project Managers


• Ensure representation of Action Against Hunger and coordinating with all external stakeholders in Sindh


• Provide operational facilitation for the implementation of programs at field level including trouble shooting and adapting global best practices for implementation in the field

Mission 2: Smooth program implementation

The Deputy Field Coordinator is responsible for:

• Facilitate in the development of new projects in collaboration with the Leads of the Technical Departments, PD, Field Managers and Program/Project Managers


• Ensure that the project management tools including BFU, DIP, PPP, PFU, HR Plan and Monitoring Plan are updated and used in the most efficient manner.


• Support rapid needs assessments and situational analysis at field level.


• Ensure synergy between Technical and Support services at the field level


• Ensure Action Against Hunger processes are respected in regard to project implementation and all support activities


• Ensure the implementation of recommendations from Action Against Hunger’s SMT , and recommendations from internal audits, experts’ field visits and so on

Mission 3: Supervising the work/functions at field level, in collaboration with relevant sectoral heads at CO

The Deputy Field Coordinator is responsible for:

• Supervise and manage project leads and support managers at field level


• Ensure that all programs and departments have adequate planning for their activities and that they match the priorities defined


• Strong coordination and follow up with partners for the effective and efficient implementation.


• Organize base meetings (both regular and ad-hoc) to share relevant issues, discuss challenges faced and lead in the formulation of solutions


• Monitor the social climate and working environment at field level, and reporting to the Country Director identified social issue cases


• Promote accountability, transparency and commitment to the ACF Charter while preventing fraud and abuses of power, and informing the Country Director when cases are identified


• Update the coordination team on program implementation


• Proactively refer to the coordination team for any matter that could jeopardize the programs, the funding or the security of staff and premises

Mission 4: Field team management while maintaining high standards of staff wellbeing

The Deputy Field Coordinator is responsible for:

• Recruiting his/her team as per the mutually agreed recruitment requirements of the base and projects


• Ensure field teams proactively express relevant demands for support to the coordination team in order to maximize protection led and gender informed operational efficiency and impact


• Pilot the follow-up on technical and support departments’ recommendations


• Monitoring the security environment (networking, collecting and analysis of information etc.)


• Actively participate in access negotiations, including securing stay and delivery objectives with stakeholders when necessary


• Maintain an effective network, with local input, on contextual and security matters, collection and analysis of information to establish the risk and context analysis


• Brief the SMT on local context and security


• Ensure the application of security procedures when alerted


• Manage any security incidents at base level and reporting them to the Country Director


• Any other relevant tasks as assigned by CD

Mission 5: Proactively support ACFs commitments to safeguarding, gender equality and child protection sensitivity

The Deputy Field Coordinator is responsible for:

• Read and ensure a full understanding of ACFs Gender, Child Protection and other safeguarding policies


• Implement all work related activities with a gender, inclusion and child protection lens


• Help build an inclusive office environment where people do not feel disadvantaged or judged according to their gender or limited due to manageable disability

Specific skills needed to perform the function

• Master’s degree in the relevant field. Minimum 08 years of overall experience with 04 years in the relevant field in the development sector. OR Bachelor’s degree on the relevant field. Minimum 10 years of overall experience with 06 years in the relevant field in the development sector


• Able to analyze and summarize complex technical and contextual information


• Fluent in English, reading writing and speaking and/or local language of the program implementation area


• Excellent computer skills


• Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills


• Team management skills


• Ability to handle stress
