The role of the product manager was created to manage the complexity of the product lines of a business, as well as to ensure that those products are profitable. Product managers can come from many different backgrounds because their primary skills involve working well with customers and understanding the problems the product is intended to solve.

The product manager owns the product vision and defines what the ideal customer experience should be, based on a deep understanding of customer needs. They are the user expert - responsible for prioritizing and supporting the work of multiple consumer-facing products and providing a cohesive vision across the organization. The product manager sets the product vision, strategy and overall priority of what needs to happen.

Device Management is the ability to remotely configure end-customer products and services based on vehicle configuration, geographic location, and customer data on both on-going (legacy) and future service delivery platforms.

Within this role, the Product Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing activities related to the strategy, development, production and marketing of new and existing products within Device Management and Back-Office Systems (DMBI) of the Service Delivery Platforms (SDP). This includes managing the product throughout the product lifecycle, defining roadmaps, use-cases (including use-case demonstrations/simulations that illustrate “happy-path" and failure mode functionality), gathering and prioritizing requirements, and working closely with development teams and other stakeholders. This work is not one-and-done — it continues through the entire lifecycle of a product. Ultimately the product manager is responsible for the success of a product.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Establish and own the Device Management vision, strategic priorities, & product requirements. These are to be published/updated regularly within internal communication systems and emphasize delivery timelines, status, risks, and escalations to leadership.

  • Guide extended teams on priority of backlog grooming, while managing & prioritizing flow of work into the product backlog. The product backlog should reflect stakeholder needs that are transparent, viable, and well understood.

  • Conduct/lead simulations to ensure product meets intended functional and performance metrics.

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams to meet the Product Delivery objectives.

  • Use multiple sources of information to develop solutions and recommendations.

  • Coordinate dependencies with other product owners within the software organization.

  • Build relationships with key stakeholders and other influencers who contribute to the definition and ongoing support of the service development platform.

  • Continuously research industry developments, new market trends and understand how our products are performing with current customers.

  • Consider flexibility and scalability as core attributes of the platform.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidate must demonstrate a “product mindset” with the ability to problem solve, collaborate, and enable realization of business value in an iterative fashion.

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Information Technology, or other directly related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of product management experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years of connected vehicle experience.

  • Thorough understanding of the platform product development organizational model and its vision to drive innovation and Agile development techniques.

  • Deep troubleshooting skills and capabilities to lead a triage team across complex ecosystems.
