Alternate Development Services (ADS), Islamabad
Based in Islamabad, the Alternate Development Services Pvt. Ltd (ADS) is a research and capacity development firm. It is registered with Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). ADS possess elaborate experience of project implementation and assessment in the areas of alternate and renewable energy transition, and addresses the effects of global warming, climate change and environmental conservation on society, economy, businesses and corporate intervention.
ADS envision generating enabling environment for informed policy positions, nature-friendly and people-centered development as well as energy consumption and transition. It is rapidly emerging as a known entity striving to persuade, facilitate and monitor Pakistan’s corporate sector in transitioning from fossil-powered energy to renewable and sustainable sources of energy such as wind, solar, bio and other green, clean, and environment-friendly sources of energy. ADS believe in employing alternative sources of energy not only help minimize global warming and arresting greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) but also helps in sustainable business growth and profitability as well.
The Alternate and Renewable Energy Campaign (AREC-Pakistan) is ADS’s ensuing campaign for transforming the corporate sectors’ sources of energy towards the clean and green ones. ADS strive to encourage the corporate sector (specifically food and beverage corporate entities’ including their supply chains, textiles, sports and leather industry and supply chains) and MDBs to switch to 100% Renewable Energy (RE) by transforming their high carbon-emitting and polluting sources of power to alternate, sustainable, greener and cleaner sources of energy. The incumbent is supposed to assess the scale and scope of energy consumption and carbon emissions, potential environmental/atmospheric impact of the corporates activities, products and services on society, analysis of the select industries’ energy consumption, design business plan, develop briefs and reader friendly reports, leaflets and pamphlets. One of his/her key roles is to persuade them to adopt human and environment-friendly means of energy generation, procurement and consumption and label their products as dirty-energy-free green products.
Corresponding to the project requirements, ADS is looking for a ‘Energy Transition Officer (ETO)’ to assume the following responsibilities:
i). Developing and implementing green strategy and business plan, as well as overseeing its environmental initiatives and help us make a difference in this regard;
ii). Understand the aspects of energy generation, conservation and energy efficiency, be able to research, draw Pakistan’s energy mix analysis, energy use data and document the current status and future progress to its commitments to RE100 by 2030;
iii). Negotiate and propose sustainable energy solutions of the corporate sector (specifically food and beverage corporate entities’ including their supply chains, Textile Industry, Sports Industry along with Apparels Production and Commercial Banks);
iv). Ensure that the select corporate’s green or potentially green initiatives support their business strategies and contribute, rather enhance their bottom-line profits. Using multiple negotiation strategies, the position holder is going to suggest select corporates to adopt and implement their energy-savings plans and prefer using renewable sources of energy;
v). Simultaneously, the incumbent is going to Identify and communicate the benefits of green and clean energy procurement and supplying green-energy-labelled products to the clients and consumers;
vi). Lead ADS’s project meant to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions, and minimizing global warming and environmental degradation;
vii). Take charge of the Green Corporate Coalition (GCC) in nurturing a social media group comprising members from various networks, each contributing expertise in diverse aspects and dimensions of green and clean energy;
viii). Participate actively in other like-minded network groups that share a focus on similar other dimensions of green and clean energy;
ix). Develop and maintain coordination and collaboration with the respective ministries, departments and institutes such and the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), the Ministry of Energy (MoE), Private Power Infrastructure Board (PPIB), National Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (NEECA), and other relevant government and no-government entities say Chambers of Commerce and Industries (CCIs), sector wise business associations, banking institutes and associations etc.;
x). Maintain ADS’s relations with I/NGOs and other Civil Society Institutes to serve the cause of arresting global warming, eliminating GHGs and promoting renewable energy in the country.
xi). Collect, organize and analyze data as per requirements of the research or a training activity.
xii). Document and analyze research data (primary and secondary);
xiii). Identifying relevant potential business opportunities, i.e. proposals, expression of interests etc. and/facilitate in writing proposals.
xiv). Be able to perform and deliver around other tasks and duties as desired by ADS other short-term projects on research, baseline, assessments and evaluation, policy studies of a range of projects.
xv). Responsibly and carefully handle other relevant tasks as assigned by the Chief Executive and the Manger Projects.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
We are seeking a highly qualified individual with a master's degree in disciplines such as Energy Economic, Energy Governance and Management, Environmental and Climate Sciences, Electrical or Energy Engineering or other relevant degrees.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing and research skills, demonstrating a proactive and self-motivated approach. This role entails independently spearheading projects, leveraging organizational support when needed. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in taking initiative, ensuring the effective leadership and execution of projects within our organization.
The ideal candidate should also possess:
i). At least 3-4 years or above experience in working for alternative energy promotion, energy transition in the food and beverage, banking, corporate or industrial arena along with an experience of running a campaign on its own and lobbying for clean and green energy consumption;
ii). Research skills in the field of alternative energy, environmental conservation, environmental impact assessment, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, carbon foot-printing along with required industry standard IT skills;
iii). Logical, rational and analytical thinking/writing and data analyses skills along with the ability to argue, negotiate and motivate for the adoption of the alternate energy as desired by the portfolio.
iv). Competence to manage, document and report the project’s progress, work under pressure, meet deadlines, work in team, learn and pay attention to details, follow the advice of the portfolio lead, write crisp and comprehensive reports or proposals and be capable and willing for multi-tasking.
v). Experience of carrying out primary and secondary data collection, analysis and tabulation skills etc.;
