Lead DBA – DB2 to PostgreSQL Migration

Role description

We are seeking an experienced Lead Database Administrator (DBA) with strong expertise in migrating from DB2 to PostgreSQL for multiple projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading the migration efforts, utilizing Attunity (now Qlik Data Integration) for real-time data replication between DB2 and PostgreSQL. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data migration, performance optimization, and continuous availability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead migration projects from DB2 to PostgreSQL, ensuring successful implementation and minimal disruption to business operations.
• Utilize Qlik Data Integration (formerly Attunity) for real-time data replication and synchronization between DB2 and PostgreSQL.
• Implement and manage data pipelines with Qlik Replication, ensuring low-latency replication and continuous data availability.
• Analyze and document existing DB2 system architecture and design migration strategies to optimize performance and scalability in PostgreSQL.
• Develop and optimize PostgreSQL database structures, focusing on performance and scalability.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, and performance tuning to ensure successful and efficient migration.
• Write, maintain, and optimize migration scripts, automation tools, and monitoring dashboards.
• Collaborate with database administrators, developers, and operations teams to ensure smooth execution of the migration.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data migration, replication, or performance during and after the migration process.
• Provide expert guidance on DB2 to PostgreSQL migration best practices.
• Conduct knowledge transfer and mentoring sessions for internal teams regarding migration strategies and lessons learned.
• Create detailed documentation for migration processes, architecture, and post-migration support.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience: 8-10 years in database migration, with a strong focus on DB2 to PostgreSQL migrations.
• Migration Tools: Expertise in using Attunity (now Qlik Data Integration) for data replication, with hands-on experience in configuring and tuning replication tasks.
• Qlik Replication: Deep understanding and experience with Qlik Replication for real-time data integration, synchronization, and transformation.
• Databases: Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, performance tuning, indexing, and optimization.
• Scripting: Proficiency in complex SQL queries and scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Bash).
• Data Integration: Strong background in ETL processes, data integration, and large-scale database migrations.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, with experience in cloud-native databases a plus.
• Performance Tuning: Expertise in tuning databases for performance, handling large datasets, and resolving performance bottlenecks.
• Project Management: Strong project management skills and the ability to lead teams to ensure timely and successful completion of migration projects.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in team-oriented environments.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with cloud-based databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, GCP).
• Knowledge of Mainframe systems and integration with relational databases like DB2.
• Familiarity with database monitoring tools and data analytics.
