Job Overview:
We seek an experienced and innovative Linux Systems Administrator and DevOps Engineering
Manager to lead and optimise our DevOps operations. This role manages a comprehensive
ecosystem, including SRE, DevOps, DevSecOps, MLOps, infrastructure, data centres, and
custom server management. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, oversee
team operations, implement robust automation, maintain secure access controls, manage
Hetzner or other hosting platforms, and ensure our systems' scalability, reliability, and
cost-efficiency.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Linux Administration: Administer and manage Linux-based custom servers, including
bare-metal and virtualised infrastructures like Proxmox and VMware.
DevOps Tools: Utilize DevOps tools for automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure
management, including Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and
Ansible.
Server Monitoring: To ensure performance, reliability, and availability, manage and
monitor servers.
Security Management: Implement secure access controls using IAM policies, SSH key
management, and VPN solutions like OpenVPN and WireGuard.
Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain server backups and disaster recovery
plans. Has experience performing test exercises.
Automation: Employ tools like Ansible to automate server configuration, updates, and
patch management.
Performance Optimization: Proactively monitor and tune system performance using
Prometheus, Grafana, and Elastic.
Cost Optimization: Analyze and optimise infrastructure costs, ensuring budget
efficiency for data centres (like Hetzner, Linode, and OVH) and Cloud Service Providers
(such as AWS, GCP and Azure).
Infrastructure Design and Management: Design and manage infrastructure, including
network segregation, load-balancing, routing, firewalls, DNS, CDNs, and trafficoptimisation. Experience with Cloudflare or similar platforms is essential.
Cryptographic Knowledge: Operational knowledge of encryption at rest, in transit, and
use is essential.
Asset Management: Manage inventory processes, including servers, secrets,
cryptographic algorithms and keys.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in Linux system administration, DevOps, or infrastructure
- management.
- Proven 3+ years of leadership experience in managing and guiding technical teams.
- Hands-on experience with managing Hetzner or other data centre platforms.
- Proficiency in automation and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or
Chef).
- Advanced expertise in continuous integration and deployment.
- Deep understanding of cloud services and virtualisation platforms.
- Strong automation skills.
- Experience with containerisation and orchestration.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with managing hybrid environments across cloud platforms.
- Advanced knowledge of network security and VPN setups for data centres.
- Certifications include RHCE, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or Kubernetes Certified
- Administrator (CKA).
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with Hetzner’s automation and cost management tools.
Good to Have
- Exposure to MLOps and related tools.
- Experience with hybrid cloud and edge computing solutions.
- Familiarity with IAM solutions (Okta, Keycloak).
