Sales Tax Analyst

Job Profile

Banyan is looking to hire a Sales Tax Analyst to join its highly functioning offshore Karachi team. Reporting to the Karachi based Assistant Sales Tax Manager, the candidate will be responsible for supporting the end-to-end sales and indirect tax function for Banyan’s companies in coordination with the onshore team in Canada/US. Please note that this is an on-site job based in Karachi.

Job Responsibilities

• Prepare, and file US state and local sales and use tax returns.
• Prepare, and file VAT (UK, EU) and GST returns (Canada, Australia, New Zealand).
• Ensure sales tax journal entries are properly recorded. Ensure tax returns filed are timely reconciled with the tax general ledger accounts.
• Perform sales tax and value added tax (VAT) nexus and product taxability studies.
• Identify and implement tax legislation changes applicable to Banyan.
• Assist in indirect tax research to ensure Banyan’s companies are in compliance with tax law. Summarize the research in writing, including citations to the specific applicable tax codes and regulations.
• Collect and review tax exemption/resell certificates/direct pay permits from customers.
• Respond to notices/letters from tax authorities (US states and local, Canada, etc).
  
  

Job Requirements

• University Degree in Business/Accounting, CPA (or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of US sales tax experience, including preparing state returns for all states that impose sales tax.
• Experience helping manage a global sales and indirect tax compliance function.
• Experience with AvaTax and Avalara Tax Research software is an asset.
• Good working knowledge of ERP systems. Experience using Sage Intacct is an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as good interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply sales and indirect tax legislation.
• Ability to complete multiple assignments with similar deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including creating pivot tables and utilizing functions and formulas.
