Specialist Development Power And RE

This position will be based in business development group of KE, whose prime mandate is to develop the future generation projects of KE, carrying out the concept initiation, bankable feasibility studies execution, acquiring regulatory approvals, executing contracts and taking the projects towards maturity i.e., financial closing stage.

Purpose

The position will be responsible to work on the development works for the future base load - thermal, hydel power and RE projects. Its main responsibility will be to gauge their applicability for KE network, assisting organization to reach its long-term objective of becoming a low cost and reliable electricity producer. The prime focus of the position is to

  • Carry out the project development activities of Baseload thermal, Renewable Energy and other associated technology initiatives.
  • Develop deals and negotiate Contracts for the new initiatives
  • Conduct active engagement with external and internal stakeholders, to identify the opportunities for growth
  • Create rigorous business cases for their probable utilization.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify possibilities of new technology deployment.
  • Actively engage with all stakeholders for commercialization of the selected technologies

Education & Relevant Experience

  • BE (Electrical or Mechanical) + (MBA).
  • 5 years or more of relevant experience of working on Thermal, Hydel and Renewables and new technologies.

Areas of Responsibility

Thermal Project Development

  • Thermal Project Development: Assist in working with all the stakeholders including but not limited to government authorities, concession provider, regulator, consultants, contractors, OEM’s, lenders to assist KE secure cheaper and reliable power generation sources, benefitting its energy mix.
  • Provide technical support during development works like evaluation of feasibilities, EPC proposals, assist in technical aspects of the regulatory submissions or during the engagement with the lenders or other stakeholders.
  • Review the evaluations of the technical proposal of thermal generation projects and review the development activities along with their milestones.
  • Lead technical due diligence of the proposed projects

Hydel Project Development

  • Hydro Projects development: Lead in working with all the stakeholders including but not limited to government authorities, concession provider, regulator, consultants, contractors, OEM’s, lenders to assist KE secure cheaper and reliable power generation sources, benefitting its energy mix.
  • Review the evaluations of the technical proposal of hydel generation projects and review the development activities along with their milestones.
  • Provide technical support during development works like evaluation of feasibilities, EPC proposals, assist in technical aspects of the regulatory submissions or during the engagement with the lenders or other stakeholders.
  • Lead technical due diligence of the proposed projects.

Lead the development of deals and negotiate Contracts for the new initiatives

  • Responsible for the contract development and negotiations of external vendor / consultant together with KE’s Procurement and legal
  • Structuring Deals around new business initiatives
  • With the assistance of technical, financial legal and regulatory teams, work towards efficient deal making.
  • Evaluate and formulate contracts like MoU’s, Joint development agreements, PPAs, EPC, OE, FSA, and other financing documents.
  • Evaluate business and commercial risks during the process of deals/contract formulation, and create their mitigation plans accordingly.

External Stakeholder Management

  • Lead the workings with regulator, government agency, lending agencies, investors, developers, and consultants to create beneficial outcome for the organization.
  • Represent the company and assist Management to create a conducive business environment.
  • Lead the development of “Go-To market” strategy for the new initiatives
  • Keep up to date with local and national business and economic issues.
  • Be actively involved in business development activities to help identify and research opportunities and create new businesses.
  • Participate actively in front-line market development by identifying key stakeholders and engaging in customer dialogues and influencing.

Knowledge

  • Candidate having proven leadership skills, ability to come up with out of box solutions, prior experience of utility scale IPP projects
  • Should have the ability to go through lengthy contracts.
  • Strong commercial acumen is desired for the role.
  • The person should be able to work on his own, with minimum requirement of hand holding.
  • Ability to write elaborate reports and work in pressure requirements.
  • Should have financial modelling skills.
