Storage & Backup Engineer

Role description

We are looking for an experienced Storage and Backup Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in Pure Storage, Rubrik, and other enterprise storage and backup technologies within the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) domain. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing storage and data protection solutions, ensuring high availability, security, and compliance with BFSI industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and manage enterprise storage infrastructure, focusing on Pure Storage (FlashArray, FlashBlade) and other leading storage solutions.

• Administer and optimize backup and disaster recovery solutions, particularly Rubrik, along with other technologies like Commvault, Veeam, Veritas NetBackup, or Cohesity.

• Develop and maintain data protection strategies, ensuring business continuity, disaster recovery (DR), and compliance with BFSI regulations.

• Configure and manage storage provisioning, volume management, LUN masking, zoning, and replication.

• Optimize storage performance, capacity planning, and data lifecycle management.

• Ensure backup automation, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting to meet RPO and RTO objectives.

• Manage cloud-based storage and backup solutions (AWS S3, Azure Blob, GCP Cloud Storage) for hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

• Collaborate with security teams to implement encryption, ransomware protection, and data retention policies.

• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and incident resolution for storage and backup-related issues.

• Work closely with server, virtualization, and network teams for seamless IT infrastructure operations.

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and best practices for storage and backup systems.

• Ensure compliance with BFSI regulatory requirements, including data sovereignty, audit trails, and security policies.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in Storage and Backup administration within BFSI or enterprise environments.

• Expertise in Pure Storage (FlashArray, FlashBlade), Rubrik, and other enterprise storage solutions.

• Strong knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions, including snapshotting, replication, and ransomware protection.

• Experience with storage protocols (FC, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, CIFS) and fiber channel networking.

• Hands-on experience in cloud storage (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid storage deployments.

• Proficiency in storage automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Terraform).

• Strong troubleshooting skills in enterprise storage, backup, and disaster recovery environments.

• Knowledge of BFSI regulatory compliance, audit requirements, and security standards.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications such as Pure Storage Certified, Rubrik Certified Systems Administrator (RCSA), Commvault, NetApp NCIE, Dell EMC Storage, or AWS/Azure Storage Certifications.

• Experience with hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) and Kubernetes storage solutions (CSI drivers, Portworx, OpenEBS, etc.).

• Exposure to object storage, deduplication, and data optimization techniques.
