Database Migration Specialist (RDBMS: On-prem to AWS)

NorthBay is looking for talented database experts in general who are passionate about database deployments, management & especially database migrations while adopting novel technologies to solve real-world problems. Ideal candidates would be having solid experience/expertise with management/migration of large scale RDBMS from on-premises to AWS RDS and AWS cross account migration. Overall good experience/expertise with Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, SQLServer database migrations, AWS Cloud, AWS Database services, DMS etc. along with experience of Database/Data migrations automations would be preferred.

Location: Lahore/Islamabad/Karachi

Experience: 5+ years

Requirements:

• Overall 5+years of experience around database platforms deployments, management and migrations especially
• Experience carrying out large scale migration of production databases especially from On-Premises to AWS RDS and AWS to AWS cross account
• Experience with AWS DMS, AWS RDS, Oracle database
• Experience with HA/DR including Backup/Recovery, Clustering, Sharding, Replication, CDC etc
• Experience with AWS & Automations especially in terms of database deployments, management and migrations would be a plus point
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible and shell scripting
• Knowledge of STIGs, Security implementations & overall database governance
• Proficiency with NoSQL would be a plus point
• Experience/Knowledge with database migrations especially or extensive expertise with Oracle, Postgres, MySQL in other domains e.g. Data Engineering, ETL/ELT
• Experience in database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance diagnostics and optimization
• Good understanding on different kinds of database platforms and workloads e.g. OLTP, OLAP
• Good problem solving skills and technical communication abilities
  
  

Responsibilities:

• Employ customer facing skills to represent NorthBay well within the customer’s environment and drive discussions regarding trade-offs among multiple options and potential risk mitigations
• Work closely with Leads/Architects on all fronts (including customer) to help and ensure success of project/migration
• Think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment
• Develop and execute database migration strategies and solutions including defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications
• Automate/Ansible solutions for repeatable problems
• Develop data validation plans and cases to demonstrate database readiness post migration
• Work closely with application teams to ensure business functionality and SLAs are met
