Position Overview
An experienced Director of Engineering, leading the Design, Permit, Back End Project Management, and Inventory departments. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise in designing complex solar photovoltaic (PV) systems using AutoCAD and other industry-standard software. This role involves leading design projects, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring that all designs meet the highest quality standards, US NEC code, and compliance requirements.

Position Overview

This role involves leading design projects, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring that all designs meet the highest quality standards, US NEC code, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Solar System Design:
- Oversee the development of detailed solar PV system designs for residential and commercial projects.
- Create and review single-line diagrams, site layouts, and equipment specifications.
- Perform advanced shading analyses and system performance optimization.
- Project Management:
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project scopes.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including sales, installation, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution.
- Assist in budgeting and resource allocation for design projects.
- Technical Expertise and Compliance:
- Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and federal codes, including NEC and building codes specific to Ohio and other operating regions.
- Stay abreast of the latest developments in solar technology, industry standards, and regulatory changes.
- Develop and implement design best practices and standard operating procedures.
- Mentorship and Team Development:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior design engineers and technicians.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance the team's technical skills.
- Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the engineering team.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement rigorous quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability in all design outputs.
- Conduct thorough reviews of design documents and calculations.
- Address and resolve any design-related issues that arise during the installation phase.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in solar PV system design, with a focus on commercial projects 0.5 Megawatt to 5 Megawatts.
- Proven proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory.
- Experience with PVsyst, HelioScope, SketchUp, and other solar modeling and design software.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects and teams.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- In-depth understanding of NEC codes, especially articles related to solar PV installations.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and permitting processes in Ohio and other U.S. regions.
- Strong analytical skills, including complex system sizing, electrical calculations, and performance modeling.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional or PV Design Specialist.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or ability to obtain licensures.
- Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire a team, manage projects, and drive results.
- Strategic Thinking: Capable of planning and executing long-term design strategies aligned with company goals.
