Lead IT Operations Engineer

Flipdish

Date: 5 hours ago
City: Karachi
Contract type: Full time

Flipdish is seeking an experienced Lead IT Systems Engineer to strengthen our global IT operations and take ownership of the Karachi office’s IT and infrastructure. This is a hands-on, highly technical role focused on systems administration, automation, and security - not end-user support.

You’ll work closely with the Head of IT in Dublin and a growing IT team in Karachi to design, secure, and scale Flipdish, providing technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior level systems engineer who enjoys autonomy, problem-solving, and hands-on continuous improvement in a fast-paced technology company while leading others to deliver.

What You’ll Do

You will help own and maintain the integrity of Flipdish’s IT systems and infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability across our global environment - working in a team responsible for the Karachi office network, devices, and on-site technology.

Key responsibilities:

  • As a small team, own all aspects of IT and infrastructure for the Karachi office, including network configuration, Wi-Fi and LAN management, endpoint management, and physical site operations such as power, cabling, connectivity, and point of contact coordination with our office facilities provider.

  • Manage and secure company-wide systems such as Google Workspace, Okta, Slack, Notion, and Trelica setting standards, guardrails, and review practices.

  • Administer identity and access management (IAM), including SSO, MFA, and least-privilege enforcement.

  • Lead vulnerability management and patching across all device fleets.

  • Design and implement security and compliance automation aligned to CIS and SOC2 frameworks.

  • Manage device compliance and configuration through MDM tools (Kandji, Intune, or equivalent).

  • Develop and maintain scripts (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate IT processes and improve efficiency.

  • Maintain secure office Wi-Fi and LAN configurations.

  • Support integration between SaaS systems using APIs and automation tools, working with the Head of IT in prioritising and sequencing work across the team.

  • Collaborate with InfoSec on incident response, monitoring, and reporting.

  • Manage SaaS governance, including automated licence access, usage reporting, maintaining a renewal calendar, and running vendor reviews.

  • Contribute to IT strategy and roadmap planning alongside the Head of IT.

Candidate Profile

You are:

  • Reasoned and decisive, able to justify technical decisions with a strong understanding of business impact, and able to bring others with you.

  • Calm, organised, and effective under pressure.

  • Disciplined, determined, and motivated by team success.

  • A self-directed learner who takes ownership of their development, and helps others grow through mentoring and feedback

  • Friendly, empathetic, and collaborative, with strong stakeholder management across functions.

  • Comfortable working in a globally distributed workforce while taking ownership of on-site operations in Karachi.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in a 3rd line or systems engineering role, ideally within a fast-scaling environment.

  • Strong technical knowledge of MacOS, Windows, and endpoint management tools (e.g. Kandji and ManageEngine).

  • Advanced understanding of identity and access management in Okta and Google Workspace.

  • Experience with Zero Trust principles, and security enforcement in environments without traditional domain infrastructure (e.g. no Windows Active Directory domain).

  • Experience with AI prompt engineering.

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, LAN/WAN and secure connectivity.

  • Experience automating workflows via APIs or infrastructure-as-code tools.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.

  • Comfortable experimenting with AI tools and building small scripts or agents to automate routine work and improve efficiency, using good judgement on data, security and access.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Familiarity with automation frameworks.

  • Experience with SIEM tools or endpoint monitoring.

  • Experience building and deploying Windows images or provisioning pipelines.

  • Understanding of SOC2, ISO 27001, or CIS compliance frameworks.

  • Relevant security certifications (CompTIA Security+, SSCP, or similar).

  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog.

About Flipdish

We’re Flipdish, an Irish unicorn (valued at over $1bn), serving independent restaurants in a world transformed by tech. No matter how fast Flipdish has grown, we’ve evolved around our customers and their needs. We’re not just an end-to-end ecosystem of technology, but a team committed to supporting people in the food industry.

We go to great lengths to understand our customers (check out our C-suite on work experience). We’re food industry natives. We’ve worked in busy kitchens and run busy restaurant franchises. We don’t just help our customers deal with real life problems, we give them a way of competing with the big chains, growing on their own terms, and falling back in love with what they do.

Our Culture

At this point, you might expect the usual spiel about how great a place Flipdish is to work at and how great our work culture is (and it is!). But, this all depends on our employees. And that’s because we trust our employees to define what sort of an employer Flipdish is.

Transparency is hugely important to us. We listen to one another. We collaborate. And we give everyone a way to grow their careers through a supportive environment.

We’re focused on getting the most out of our time together — output and team energy are at the heart of our hub-based philosophy, not an attendance ticking exercise!

So, if you want to join a genuinely friendly team, take a look at our current openings and get in touch. And if you don’t see an opening just yet, do get in touch and register your interest with us anyway. We’ll be in touch as soon as something suitable opens up.

Don’t Be Shy. Apply.

We know that imposter syndrome can be a thing. Don’t let it be. We want enthusiastic people from all backgrounds. If you feel like you’re up for working with us, get in touch.

We also understand neurodivergent candidates might need assistance. That’s not a problem in the slightest. Just reach out to us — we’d love to hear from you.
